How do I play Blackjack?

Every casino has a card game section and there are plenty of options to choose from. But it’s blackjack, which has been around since the 19th century, that really deserves a look.

Today the game rivals poker, and many casinos give you the chance to try it. Some casinos also let new players try out the game in virtual currency first, just to find out how the game feels. The rules are simple but the action is fast-paced. In order to get a payout, you have to score 21 points and outscore your opponent.

The rules

The game starts with the participants deciding how much to bet. After this, the dealer hands each player his cards. Two of each hand. The dealer has one card out and the other face down.  After the hand is dealt, the players decide whether they need an additional card. There are several options:

  1. If there are 21 in hand, no more cards are needed.
  2. Take 1 card, losing the initial bet.
  3. Bet x2 and another card.
  4. Split cards of equal face value.
  5. Reset.

As for blackjack card valuation, it can be as low as 1 point or as high as 11. Then from 2 to 9 all go according to the number, and from 10 to the king all go to 10 points.

Gameplay terminology. What do I need to know?

In order to get straight into the game of blackjack, you’ll need to know all the terms:

  1. Hit. This means another card. This can be used a number of times in a game.
  2. Stand. Enough.
  3. Split. Cards of the same value can be split, but the original betting amount is added.
  4. Double Down. Double Down says the initial bet is increased, and the player may draw a card from the dealer.
  5. Surrender. This means that the player folds.  In this case, it is possible to get half of the bet back.

Gestures in the game

Regular players often start gesticulating instead of saying anything. And here it’s best to get all the options straight away. If you need to take another card from the dealer, you should simply flick your finger across the table in your direction. If you don’t need to take any more, you should just put the cards with the shirt up and the chips on top.

Double Down indicates that the Blackjack player is betting x2. And if it’s necessary to split the cards, an amount equal to the original bet should appear on the table.  But if the player has a winning combination or an overcall, it’s worth opening up the hand combination for all to see right away.
